WHEREAS, the late Dirk H. Groenenberg had a great respect and love for animals; and
WHEREAS. It was his intent to leave a gift from the Dirk H. Groenenberg Trust.
NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of Batesville, Arkansas,
The said funds shall be used to build a new animal shelter building with a portion of the
funds to be used for salaries at the shelter for the year 2404 only and the city graciously
acknowledges the gift. These funds will not be used for any other purpose.
The authority is given to the mayor to sign all documents relating to this project. The
mayor shall have the authority to work with the estate on the chosen project site.
The City shall name the animal shelter"The Viola&Dirk Groenenberg Animal Shelter
of Batesville" and it shall be known as " The Groenenberg Animal Shelter of
Batesville". The City shall place a plaque with the full name of the center and the
following inscription:
Hear our humble prayer, O God
For our friends the animals,
Especially for animals who are
Suffering; for any that are hunted
Lost or deserted or frightened
Or hungry, for all that must be
Put to death.
We entreat for them all Thy mercy
And pity, and for all those who deal
With them we ask a heart of compassion
And gentle hands and kindly words.
Make us, ourselves, to be true friends to
Animals and so to share the blessings of
The merciful.
