HomeMy WebLinkAbout2005-09-02 JCA-4/PI • ORDINANCE NO. 2005-9-2 AN ORDINANCE CALLING AN ELECTION ON THE PURPOSE OF REQUIRING A BUSINESS LICENSE OF ALL BUSINESSES OPERATING IN THE CITY OF BATESVILLE, ARKANSAS WHEREAS, on the 14th day of June, 2005, the City Council of the City of Batesville, passed Ordinance No. 2005-6-2 which requires a business license of all businesses operating in the City of Batesville, Arkansas; WHEREAS, a Petition for Referendum of said Ordinance has been filed with the City Clerk of the City of Batesville, Arkansas, requesting that the issue be placed before the legal voters of the City at a special election; WHEREAS, the City has determined that said Petition of Referendum has been signed by the requisite number of petitioners and that a special election should be held on the issue of said license. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF BATESVILLE, ARKANSAS: Section 1. There is hereby called an election by the registered voters of the City of Batesville, Arkansas, as to whether or not they wish to adopt a business license for all businesses operating in the City of Batesville, Arkansas. Section 2. The date of the election shall be November 8, 2005. Section 3. By transmittal of a copy of this Ordinance by the City Clerk, the County Board of Election Commissioners of Independence County are hereby notified that the measure has been referred to a vote of the people, and the election shall be conducted in accordance with all laws applicable to municipal elections. Section 4. By transmittal of a copy of this Ordinance by the City Clerk, the County Board of Election Commissioners of Independence County is hereby notified that the ballot title to be used in this election shall be as follows: • • "FOR Adoption of a business license for all businesses operating in the City of Batesville, Arkansas." "AGAINST Adoption of a business license for all businesses operating in the City of Batesville, Arkansas." BE IT ORDAINED THIS 13th DAY OF SEPTEMBER 2005. ?�JMEM.
